Here at Loudonville Assisted Living Residence, the weather is changing. Brisk autumn breezes are picking up the leaves, sending our beautifully colored fall foliage around the lawn, where mums enhance our pristine landscaping with pops of bright seasonal hues.

Residents are enjoying the contrast between the deliciously cool weather outdoors, and the warmth of home, where we have the fireplace lit and giving a cheerful glow to the living room. Also, our amazing team of chefs and kitchen support staff has premiered their gourmet fall menu. This includes resident favorites such as braised short ribs, maple flavored roasted butternut squash, and apple crisp served warm with whipped cream and cinnamon.

Studies have shown that outdoor activity can have a positive impact on mental health and physical well-being, and can lead to long term benefits for older adults. Vitamin D deficiency, for instance, is related to many chronic conditions including cancer, heart disease and bone health. Taking the time to spend outdoors to soak in a healthy amount of sun in the mild fall temperatures is a good way to increase one’s Vitamin D!

Aside from sitting in one of the beautifully landscaped seating areas around home, our residents will have the opportunity to day trip to a local apple orchard to get out and about and enjoy the season. Leaf peeping and enjoying hot apple cider and cider donuts will be highlights of that activity, along with socializing and enjoying great conversations with friends.

Closer to home, preparations are underway for the upcoming fall holidays. Halloween will be celebrated with a party and trick-or-treating, an event open to residents, their families, and families of staff. Later on in the season, our chefs and kitchen team will prepare a stellar Thanksgiving spread. We look forward to sharing the warmth and coziness in this season of crisp breezes and beautiful Albany-area fall colors with everyone in our community!
